Microsoft Dynamics Mayhem

If you thought “here he comes again” with the bugs and stuff, no – this is not about it. This is just about a new sales campaign launched by PACKT Publishing, the good guys who published my and Dave’s book three years ago, and plenty other good books thereafter, as well.

So, if you haven’t purchased my book yet, or any other cool Dynamics book, now is the time: during February, PACKT is giving 10% to 30% percent discount on all of its Dynamics books and offerings. Printed books are 20% off, e-books are 30% off, so this might be a good time to support us poor guys who have to make a living from literary efforts Smile

Find more about the offer here http://www.packtpub.com/news/microsoft-dynamics-mayhem.

Two more Microsoft Dynamics NAV books

  • Reading time:1 min read

twomorebooksAs reported by Marq, two more Microsoft Dynamics NAV books have been published by PACKT this week: Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 SP1 Programming Cookbook by Matt Traxinger and Microsoft Dynamics NAV Administration by Amit Sachdev and Sharan Oberoi. With Vincent’s and Chandru’s Sure Step book announced yesterday, this makes for three Microsoft Dynamics books in a single week. Three books a week, not a bad score. Congratulations guys!

I’m now going to pre-order my copies, and you should do the same. As Marq says, buy the books, enjoy the knowledge!

Last week, there were three Dynamics communities announced. This week, three books are announced. Do you see a trend here, or is it only me? What’s going to happen next week? I don’t even dare thinking…

A new book about Microsoft Dynamics NAV

  • Reading time:2 mins read

Back in my time (now I feel old :)) if you wanted to read a book about Microsoft Dynamics NAV, you just couldn’t—there wasn’t any available. Today, if you want to learn about NAV, not only there are books about programming and implementing, but with new Mark Brummel’s book you can now learn about the most important aspect of Microsoft Dynamics NAV customization projects—the application design. The book hasn’t yet been published, but is already available for preorder through PACKT Publishing at the following link: Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 Application Design.

The book is targeted primarily at business and management students and managers running ERP projects, and explains what ERP business processes are about, rather than focusing on technical issues or specific products.

Implementing Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 by David Roys and Vjekoslav Babić (opens in a new window)MSDynamicsWorld.com has just posted an excerpt from my friend Dave’s and my book Implementing Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009, delivering some content from chapter 4, focusing on the implementation process. The Chapter 4 draws a lot of its content from Sure Step best practices, and the fact that MSDynamicsWorld.com has decided to post this content on their website shows how important a standard methodology is for a successful implementation project.

This excerpt is only the first part of a series of two articles, and the next one is due to follow soon. I’ll make sure to let you know about it.

Anyway, the book so far has been received pretty well, we’ve got a lot of good feedback, and Amazon.com sales rank consistently shows the audience likes it a lot. Have you got yourself a copy already?

My WinDays9 presentation online

  • Reading time:1 min read

image WinDays9 is over, thank you all who attended my presentation “What’s new in Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009”. I hope it was worth your time. For all you lucky ones, I hope you liked the book! I would prefer if I had enough of them to give you each a copy, but let’s just say I was logistically impaired.

Also, I hope you enjoyed the presentation, and learned a lot about this, for Croatian market, still upcoming release. For me, preparing (and delivering) this presentation was a challenge, regardless of all the effort I invested into researching the product last year.

If you didn’t have a chance to attend the presentation, and you are still interested in watching the presentation, I invite you to visit the presentation workspace at http://www.mswindays.com/WinDays9Technology/radniprostori/472/default.aspx.

Please note – only WinDays9 registered attendees can access this web page (as far as I know).

Hollywood Secrets of Project Management Success: a review of a sort

  • Reading time:5 mins read

Hollywood Secrets of Project Management SuccessTake that project you are currently running, and imagine, just for a second, that it came with only 3% budget overrun. Most of people in software industry would call it wild success.

In motion picture industry, however, trampling measly 2% or 3% over initial budget would be considered a failure.

While movie industry and software industry are seemingly light years apart, there are many things these two have in common, and there are obviously many things we can learn from them.

Where I have been for the past eight months…

image This blog started enthusiastically, I had as many as 14 posts per month. Taking into account that blogging was only a hobby, I blogged like crazy. Then I went silent.

No, I wasn’t tired from blogging, I didn’t experience a writer’s block, quite the contrary! I was working on a project. A top secret one. Now it has been done, and here are the results:  a book called Implementing Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009.
